If only a small area of the sill or box is rotten then the affected wood can be removed back to sound timber, treated and filled with a specialist elastic resin. This can be made to to seamlessly match the original timber and will last almost indefinitely. Due to its elastic nature, it does not crack and break down like cheaper two-pack filler that is often used. When a greater section of the sill and lower box has succumbed to rot, a whole sill will need to be replaced; for this, we use Accoya, cut to match the original sill, fixed in place and primed. Provided the windows are maintained there is no reason why your new sill will not last for hundreds of years.
