The window is disassembled and the individual sashes are removed. The grooves that house the brush pile carriers are routed out. Whilst the sashes are removed they are weighed so the weights can be adjusted, ensuring they are correctly balanced. This is accomplished by adding extra lead to the original weights, or by replacing them with heavier cast iron sash weights.

Any excess paint build-up is removed from the running faces of the sash box and the sliding sashes. The windows are checked for correct alignment and where necessary the sides, tops and bottoms of the sashes are planed. This ensures the meeting rails match correctly, and that there are no gaps where the sashes meet the head and sill of the box. At this stage, any rot or insect damage is repaired and treated. All wood-work is carried out to a high standard by trained and qualified joiners who take pride in their work.

The sashes and box are now painted with a primer to seal any bare timber. The sashes are then reinstalled using a high-quality wax cotton cord with a polypropylene core, along with new staff and parting beads, which incorporate the draught proofing brush pile. All beads are caulked, screw and pin holes filled and sanded.

The result will be a window that is virtually draught-proof, reducing traffic noise, pollution, and dust ingress into your home as well as being easy to use and with no rattles. This will now give you many years of trouble-free service.
